She’s a songwriter for life, because Laura simply could never help herself from listening, describing, responding to and playing with language and music. Formative years include being fed a large portion of classical, jazz, opera and show tunes and washing that down with the beer-flavored alt-country folk of her older siblings.
When she finally tasted the mixed salad of some college radio station genre-fluid 80s & 90s folk/pop/alt/rock, she knew there was a place for her at the table. Imagine the Indigo Girls, R.E.M, James Taylor, Debbie Harry, Linda Ronstadt, Michelle Shocked, Kate Bush, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Billie Holiday, the Talking Heads, Emmylou Harris, Peter Gabriel and Ella Fitzgerald at a pot-luck supper together.
There have been so many amazing collaborations for Laura along the way, including work with Arista recording artists the Samples in the early years. Other collaborators include Nashville songwriters Roy Clayborne and Felix McTeigue and producer Jim Gilmour. She has shared the bill with artists such as Dar Williams, Amy Helm, Lucy Kaplansky and John Gorka. She has opened for Lou Gramm of Foreigner and gone on tour with the Temptations. They even let her dance on stage with them!
The most fruitful and rewarding collaboration is her current work with partner artist/producer Ben Campbell (Saint Albums) with the entity known as Luminous Crush.
